 La Jolla Residence
Built on a two acre site, the new owners of this home wished to renovate the
pool and patio area in order to add some amenities that would increase the
beauty and function of the outdoor entertaining space. Their program
consisted of enlarging the patio area and adding an open-air pool house
structure and fireplace, a fountain, a cook center with built-in BBQ and
sink, new landscaping, and new landscape lighting.
The new design, centering on the existing pool and spa, enlarged the
original patio space with a new brick and concrete terrace, flanked by the
pool house on one end. A fountain clad in brick and navy blue tile with a
piper boy sculpture was designed for the terrace, along with new countertops
bricked and tiled to match the fountain. New planting spaces for fragrant
Gardenias and Jasmine soften the new terrace, as do decorative urns planted
with seasonal color. Elsewhere, beds of Camellias, Azaleas, and other
flowering shrubs were planted along the large lawn area facing the terrace
and pool and trees were planted for privacy from neighbors.
