 Pacific Beach Residence
As part of a remodeling project, the owners of this 1960s modernist home
wanted a landscape renovation that would create a beautiful outdoor
entertainment space as well as solve a persistent drainage problem. Since
the pool had originally been built too high, water from the patio drained
toward the house, not away from it. The solution was to raise the pool
coping with flagstone so that water could flow away from the house into an
underground drain system. The pool was replastered in a charcoal gray color
and new tile added.
In addition, a large patio space was designed with sandblasted, colored
concrete. This patio is shaded by a modular shade structure supported by
stone columns that match the stone veneer on the front of the house. This
structure picks up the modernist feel of the home. The pool is surrounded
by lush vegetation that is reflected in the dark pool surface, creating the
feel of a tropical paradise in Pacific Beach.
